iOS 17, announced within the scope of WDC 2023, has been made available with its first developer beta version. In this release, Apple has made changes to some ongoing limitations in group messaging on iMessage for iPhone users. While the new features promise enhanced functionality for iPhone users, things will become more complicated for Android users. Android users who join group chats created on iMessage will face certain limitations.
iOS 17 introduces new limitations on iMessage to Android users
iOS 17 disrupts the messaging experience between iMessage and Android One notable innovation in iOS 17 beta 1 is the ability for iPhone users to edit messages in group chats. This long-awaited feature will allow for message corrections. However, Android users in the chat will not see that the message has been edited. As you can imagine, this situation can lead to communication issues.
Considering that iOS 17 is still in the development beta, it seems likely that the company will address this issue. Apple can resolve this problem by sending a message on Android indicating that the text has been edited.
You won’t be able to send messages as freely in WhatsApp groups! Another feature exclusive to iPhone users is the ability to reply to messages in group chats. This feature will allow users to directly respond by quoting specific messages. However, Android users will see the replies in a threaded format, meaning it won’t be clear which message is being quoted.
Furthermore, iOS 17 will bring improvements to the quality of shared photos and videos in group chats. Unlike the old MMS protocol, photos will now be stored in their original quality. However, Android users in the group chat will continue to receive images via MMS.
The introduction of iOS 17 beta 1 brings significant changes to group messaging for iPhone users. However, these updates appear to have been made without considering Android users.
